Frequently Asked Questions

Accessibility:
There are no steps to get into either studio. Our entrances, studios, and bathrooms are wheelchair accessible, however there are no hand rails in our Peoria bathrooms. Please email info@soulsidehealingarts.com or call 309-623-4998 if you need more info on accessibility.

Health Precautions:
Please stay home if you’re not feeling well; we have a virtual Zoom option for many of our studio classes. Mats and props are available for use but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Please use provided prop spray to wipe down mats after class.

How do Zoom classes work?
It is not required that you practice with your camera on, though we enjoy seeing who shows up for class and creating a sense of community even on Zoom, so feel free to practice with your camera on. You will be muted upon entry. Please stay muted unless you are saying hi to the instructor or group. Please ask any questions before or after class unless instructed otherwise.

When should I arrive?
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class to sign-in and get set up. The first few minutes of class are an important, quiet time of meditation so late arrivals can be distracting. Please try not to arrive more than 15 minutes before class, as teachers may be preparing or not yet arrived from other commitments.

What should I wear?
Whatever is comfortable for you to move in!

What should I bring?
You don’t need to bring anything, but you are welcome to bring your own yoga mat if you have one. You may want to bring a water bottle; we have filtered water available in the kitchenette fridge. We have blocks, bolsters, and other props used during class. For outdoor classes, you may want to bring your own props, bug spray, sunscreen, and a blanket or towel for under your mat.

What is the cost?
Most of our Peoria classes are pay-what-you-can. The Washington studio is a full price studio requiring $15/class or a class pass. Read more about our pricing model here.

Will teachers be offering hands-on adjustments?
Hands-on assists are gentle touches that help a student understand a fuller or more efficient alignment in a pose or provide a relaxing sensation similar to massage. Some teachers offer hands-on assists during class. All teachers should be asking for consent before touching students, so please advocate for yourself if you’d prefer not to be touched. You are welcome to let the teacher know your preference before, during, or after class.

Do you play music?
Most teachers play music during their class. If you have sensitivity to the volume, please let your teacher know.

Is there an age restriction? Can I bring my child?
We recommend 13+ but leave that up to you as a caregiver. Does your child have the attention span to make it through a full class designed for adults? Bring 'em along! If we notice a pattern of disruption, we will handle it on an individual basis. If your child has an email address, we appreicate you signing them up for class so we have an accurate count. If not, we appreciate you considering their attendance in the donation you make when you sign up.

All waivers contain the following clause: “If my child or a child in my care participates in classes or events at Soulside, I will also assume full responsibility for any injuries that may result from their participation, with the same considerations that this waiver stipulates above.”

What does it mean to be trauma-informed?
Trauma-informed yoga (TIY) is an intention to be inclusive of all possible experiences. Everything is offered as an invitation, with an understanding of the way traumas play out in the body that may make people uncomfortable, tense, upset, reserved, etc. in a yoga class. TIY values awareness of language and poses that may be re-triggering. It is about making the class as safe as possible without treating individuals as if they are fragile.

Are all Soulside classes trauma-informed?
There are no designated TIY classes in the studio but all teachers in our studio teach with TIY tenants in mind. We’re always working to provide our teachers with intensive TIY training. To learn more or find out which class or teacher would be the best fit, email us.

Yoga is a practice, not a performance.

If you’re not sure what you should be doing, feel free to pause and look around the room or at the teacher. Everyone looks different in each pose! Explore, get curious, and try. We’re glad you’re here!
